In 2017 I started teaching about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies shortly after discovering it myself. I became (and still am) obsessed with learning and it led me to my true calling in life, teaching. In my previous life I held commercial roles in the data computing and artificial intelligence industries which helped me understand the genius behind Satoshi Nakamoto’s creation. I am passionate about helping improve financial and technology literacy, to inspire critical thinking and open minds to revolutionary systems.

For the last decade I have been intrigued by financial markets and how they inextricably link societies together. Cryptocurrencies are the evolution of my intrigue. I have a varied background in Finance and Economics, having lived in multiple cities around the world. I take great fulfilment in engaging and explaining abstract concepts to individuals, hoping that they see the potential that I see in these systems everyday.

Having worked with Colin for many years, I found my role as an art-director and graphic-designer, thinking along in how to visualise and communicate in a clear way. As most of the crypto space is digital, intangible and often quite complex, we create custom visuals, icons and animations as part of the lessons, always challenging ourselves to improve the material and our story.

For over 3 years I have been investing and trading cryptocurrencies. I love researching the latest trends in the markets, studying new market entrants and monitoring market movements. We offer beginner courses that cover the basic fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge required to get started with Bitcoin and crypto.

Lesson 1: The Theory

In the THEORY lesson we compare and contrast systems of money of the past, present and future. We demonstrate the incredible potential of decentralized systems of value, programmable money and free market currencies.

Lessons

Our lessons are about more than Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, we teach about money, debt, gold, privacy, schools of economic thought and the systems of value that reign today. We demonstrate how and why these systems have failed in the past (and are failing today) and what lessons society can and should learn as to not to repeat them. In our sessions we cycle back and forth between old and new systems, challenge inherited financial systems and demonstrate the advantages of the (inevitable) switch from enforced trust in people & institutions to algorithmic trust. Free market currencies, decentralized autonomous organizations and programmable monetary systems is our vision of the future.

Before tacking the course I only had a basic Idea on how crypto currency worked. Colin structured the course into smaller segments to break down all of the different aspects and principles of crypto. Where to begin... Bottom line, The Pineo & GoB Cryptocurrency Course has certainly been one of the most educational, content-heavy courses I have ever taken. Talk about bang for your buck! I'm so happy I decided to enroll in a course on crypto vs. try to learn and navigate this world on my own. There's just so much information out there to sift through, so it felt way more manageable and accessible to learn in a (virtual) classroom setting where we can pause, ask questions, learn from other students' inquiries, and have access to Colin for questions that may land in my brain outside of sessions. It's also nice to have access to course recordings, because as someone who is totally new to the world of crypto, I need to be able to go back and revisit these discussions so as to cement them in my brain. The course is informative, engaging, and well-run. If you asked me 4 weeks ago about crypto/Bitcoin, I would have immediately crumbled into a pile of dust from overwhelm and confusion. Now, I feel a lot more confident and equipped to dive into some self-guided learning and even try my hand at some modest investing. Regardless of where you are on your crypto journey, I'm confident you'll walk away from this course better positioned than when you entered. Hats off to the Pineo team for accelerating the spread of crypto financial literacy and demystifying this fascinating world.

Colin really fills in the gaps when it comes to the technology behind cryptocurrencies where a lot of the information out there right now focuses mostly on how to trade and make money.
He explains relatively complex CS concepts to do with the blockchain in an understandable manner, so that even without a CS background most concepts become quite clear. Good way to grasp the basics of these interesting new developments in a relatively short amount of time!

Last week I visited Colin's masterclass at the University of Amsterdam where he explained the potential of the Blockchain technology. The last couple of months I have been busy trying to learn about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and to understand the underlying Blockchain technology. Colin's masterclass has been very helpful to me because he clearly provided a big picture of the Blockchain technology. He clearly explained how the Blockchain technology works and due to the clear slides, it was easy to stay on track although many terms were new for me.
Additionally, he compared and explained the current economic system's features with the features of a future economic system driven by the Blockchain technology, in such a way that it was easy to understand the potential of the technology.
Also, I really enjoyed Colin's enthusiasm during the lecture. This, in combination with his extensive knowledge about a relatively complex topic, made it an very interesting lecture.
However, there is always room for improvement, although Colin did a very good job. He described and explained the technology extensively but I would like the presentation to be a bit more technical, in a sense that he could explain some of the terminology in a bit more detail.
Finally, I would recommend Colin's masterclass to everybody who is interested in Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and especially Blockchain, and is willing to learn more about this great technology. Colin can definitely help you to understand the technology more thoroughly!

As a computer science student, I'm usually focused on the technical aspects of the things that I study; however, Colin opened up my mind about blockchain and cryptocurrencies on a much bigger picture and helped me understand the future implications of this decentralized technology in comparison to our current centralized systems. I think this is a great introduction to the entire cryptocurrency and blockchain sphere. I would have like the presentation to be a bit more technical and go over some of the terminology in a bit greater detail such as hashing 🙂 I have a principle of never giving 5 stars to anything because it sort of implies that something is 100% perfect, which i would say something never is and there is always room for improvement :)!

I visited Colin's masterclass at the University of Amsterdam where explained the possibilities of bitcoin and especially Blockchain. A very interesting lecture with somebody who conveyed a lot of knowledge and enthusiasms regarding the topic! Colin easily guided us trough the world of Blockchain and it helped he had a perfect command of the English language. Colin said this was his first time giving a presentation to a big group like ours, and I must say he did a great job for it being a ''first'' time. Colin can perfectly describe the Blockchain and Bitcoin developments, using clear examples and nice slides. His ability to both highlight the economical side as well as the technical side without spending to much time on both was amazing. He made it very clear why Blockchain is here to stay!

Spontaneously I had the chance to join one of Colin's lessons in NYC. Although I work with sophisticated software all the time, I was completely new to the world of cryptocurrencies. Last week I joined a first lesson about cryptos. Although I am not a newbie and could have better joined lesson 2 I was surprised by the clearness of Colins presentation. You could see he put a lot of effort in creating this first lesson. Furthermore Colin has a lot of patience so he is more than willing to anser all your questions. Colin delivered a very informative lesson to me in NYC. He gave me important insights into the basic functionings of cryptocurrencies and their differences to standard forms of currencies. At times however the embrace of bitcoin as revolutionary force seemed a bit too enthusiastic. Adding some critical voices as well might further an understanding of the ups and downs, the limits and possibilities, of cryptocurrencies. I understand of course that this is difficult to achieve in just one lesson. Other than that, great lesson and highly recommendable!

The prices of Bitcoin and Ether are bouncing up and down the last months and therefore look like an attractive investment opportunity. But when you are new to this topic, it’s important to learn about the root of these currencies in order to understand how it’s possible that these fluctuations happen.
